Here's the recipe that started it all. Our mother, Heather, a Newfoundlander, grew up with this recipe. It's a traditional Stuffing recipe using bread and Summer Savory.

Farmer John’s Herbs Recipe Traditional Stuffing
(Yield: enough to stuff a chicken, double recipe for a turkey)
1/4 cup, (60 g) butter
1/4 cup (125 ml) chopped onions
1/4 cup (125 ml) chopped celery
2 Tablespoons (9 g) Summer Savory
1/2 Tsp (2 ml) Salt
½ Tsp (2 ml) Black Pepper
4 cups (400 g) dried bread, cubed
In a large frying pan, melt butter over a medium heat. Sauté onions, celery, summer savory, salt and pepper until tender. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl. Add the bread and mix well. Stuff the turkey/chicken at both ends with the mixture immediately before cooking. Do not stuff and allow the turkey to sit around.
