About Us

Farmer John's Herbs is family-run farm situated in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.

Our farm philosophy is healthy soil - healthy food - healthy people. We use regenerative farming principals to create healthy soil. Healthy soil grows healthy, high quality food, which nourishes healthy people. We take great care to maintain a healthy farm ecosystem and grow healthy food for Canadians.

Our Story

Jacoba and Bram Lohr, came from The Netherlands in 1958, and started farming here in 1960. Bram grew Strawberries, potatoes, cut flowers and various other crops. He took a chance growing Summer savory for a group of women from their church, which was the beginning of our herb growing enterprise.

In 1985 Bram's son John, and his wife Heather, took over farming operations. Together they started the Farmer John's Herbs brand and built a food safe kitchen on the farm where they developed and packaged a line stuffing mixes, and spice mixes for Maritime recipes.

Our goal is to bring you the flavours of the Maritimes through our summer savory and many spice mixes. We are a certified organic processor and use mostly organic herbs in our spice mixtures.

We are committed to helping our neighbours and have done so in our own community, and abroad by assisting Farmers Helping Farmers' efforts in Kenya. For more information about this program, visit www.farmershelpingfarmers.ca
